Pacific Keel-scaled Boa (Candoia carinata) While pythons undoubtedly hold the crown for the largest and most famous constricting snakes of Indonesia, a single genus of boas also occurs in the rainforests of the eastern archipelago. Often overlooked, the Pacific Keel-scaled Boa (Candoia carinata) seldom exceeds a meter in length. It is an ambush predator of frogs and lizards, and like other boas, bears live young rather than laying eggs. Digul River, Papua, Indonesia (New Guinea).

Will They Make It ? Wild South Africa Kruger National Park I posted this photo because Giraffe calves are always special but also to show what climate change and the drought have done to the bushveld in the middle region of the Kruger Park. There is hardly any grass left and the trees appear to be dead. How the poor animals are going to survive is anybody's guess.

Jumping Spider front 091720_2020-09-17-15.10.08 ZS PMax UDR From the MAGLEV impact site on Patuxent...yet another tiny Jumping Spider, how tiny...it is sitting on the cut end of a pin for scale. There are so many of these around at this time of year, the woods and fields are thick with these hunters....personable too, with their forward facing eyes, they appear to have a relationship with you. They do, of course, both the spider and you just can't figure out what it is. ...

Soaked Bears go all in after the targeted fish. There’s nothing half-hearted about it. The full belly flop with front legs outstretched creating a wave and splash of water that will completely hide a 600 pound bear results in a soaked face. This sow looks like she’s been dunked. Each bear after each lunge has a different array of water droplets, spray and drips. There is no end to my enjoyment of the unique character of each one.

Sheltie Fun Time When Millie asked my advice the other day on what to do when being chased by a bull, I replied that she ought to run away, as hard and as fast as she could……And to cross her paws for good luck….Because she was going to need it…..Well I never gave it another thought, thinking to myself that will never happen….until today….When I saw Millie being chased by a very angry looking bull with horns that looked as if they could do some real damage if put in the rig...

Anthidium psoraleae, f, right, Lake Co, MN_2020-02-17-15.26.21 ZS PMax UDR Here is a prairie Anthidium. A. psoraleae. There are 36 Anthidiums in the U.S. In the East and the Midwest, none are what you would call common any longer...except for 2 of the exotic ones A. oblongatum and A. manicatum. They, are common. Why? Because they like weeds and are weedy themselves and in places where people with cameras live there are lots of weeds. In fact, except for you, dear re...

On Guard ..... this Meerkat is at his post, watching over his mates at the Wellington Zoo ( from National Geographic: While the rest of the mob forages for food, one of the Meerkats (or sometimes more), called a sentry, will find a high point, like a termite mound, and perch on its back legs. From here it scans the sky and desert for predators such as eagles, hawks and jackals. A sentry who senses danger will let out a high-pitched squeal, sending the mob scrambling for cover.)
