Rising from a rocky islet, in the middle of the powerful tides of the Channel, stand the fortified village and the gothic abbey of Mont Saint-Michel. Over the centuries, the place has become an emblematic feature of French heritage by being a Christian pilgrimage site, a symbol of resistance during the Hundred Years' War as well as an architectural masterpiece.
