Castle Stanjel Postojna Stanjel Castle is the best example of medieval buildings that survived from ancient times. It stands on a hill above the town Branica. The castle was built in Mediterranean style. It was first mentioned in the sources at the beginning of the XV century. However, historians have found out that the castle was built in the middle of the XII century, as evidenced by masonry, which was quite popular in those days.

The outdoor area is located on the grounds of the castle, indicates that it had previously served for collecting rainwater.

For many centuries of its existence, the castle was replaced by a lot of owners and withstood several attacks and sieges by the enemies. In October 1944, the castle was destroyed by fire and was rebuilt in 1950. On the ground floor of the castle is an observation deck, an exhibition hall and a restaurant.
