These fortresses were actively erected in the XIV century to defend the castle from attack, which is why the name of the castle Skofja Loka is translated as "the most fortified." Later the castle was the residence of bishops Friezing. After the earthquake in 1511, the castle was restored. Since 1959 the castle turned into a museum that can visit anyone.
